China’s unwrought aluminium and aluminium products import down 28% in October

According to the General Administration of Customs data, aluminium imports in China declined month-on-month in October as domestic and international prices spread narrows.  Imports of unwrought aluminium and aluminium products came in at 256,619 tonnes last month, down 27.9%.

Imports of unwrought aluminium and aluminium products stood at 2.25 million tonnes in the first ten months of 2020. This marked an increase of 383.5% year-on-year.

China’s shipments of these products increased 403.6% year-on-year, customs said. Aluminium exports in October were 418,894 tonnes.

The country has been importing significant amount of the metal in more than a decade in 2020 as Shanghai aluminium prices grow well above London prices. China was a net aluminium importer in July and August – when exports neared 430,000 tonnes – for the first time since 2009.
