The UAE started to impose import duties on pre-painted galvanized flat-rolled products with a width of more than 600 mm. The determination was based on the safeguard probe started by the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) members in 2016.

It was understood that all members of the GCC except the UAE have imposed the definitive safeguard duty on these subject products from May 15, 2018.

The duty was effective for three years. The rate is US$169/ton from May 15, 2018 to May 14, 2019, US$153/ton from May 15, 2019 to May 14, 2020, and US$137/ton from May 15, 2020 and May 14, 2021.

From July 19, 2020, the UAE will impose the import duty of AED 500/ton (US$137/ton) on products under HS codes 721070 and 7201090, until May 14, 2021.
