US aluminium plates, sheets and bars exports decline by 46% M-o-M in May 2020

According to the latest data shown by the US Geological Statistics, the United States aluminium plates, sheets and bars exports in May 2020 stood at 39,900 tonnes, down by 46.44 per cent month-on-month from 74,500 tonnes. On a year-on-year basis, the exports in May 2020 were down by 46 per cent as well from 73,800 tonnes, showed the data.

The United States aluminium semis exports in April were, however, up by 6.58 per cent month-on-month from 69,900 tonnes. In March, the exports grew by 2 per cent from 68,600 tonnes, following a month-on-month restraint in February.

In the first five months of the year, the United States aluminium semis exports totalled 295,000 tonnes, registering a year-on-year downfall of 22.16 per cent from 379,000 tonnes.

In May 2020, Canada continued to remain the biggest importer of aluminium plates, sheets and bars from the US, but with a lower amount of import than the previous month. From 17,100 tonnes in April, Canada’s aluminium semi-finished products imports from the US declined 11.70 per cent to 15,100 tonnes in May.

On a year-on-year calculation, Canada’s aluminium plates, sheets and bars imports from the US in May 2020 stood lower by 47.75 per cent from 28,900 tonnes.
