Morocco makes final ruling on safeguard measures for imported welded steel pipes

On September 16, 2020, the WTO Committee on Safeguards released the safeguards notification submitted to it by the Moroccan delegation on September 7. Morocco has made a positive final ruling on the safeguard measures for imported welded steel pipes (French: Tubes et tuyaux en fer ou en acier). It is recommended to impose an additional tariff of 25% on the products involved, which is reduced by 1% year by year. The validity period is 3 years. Effective on the next day of the official gazette. The involved products imported from Mainland China, Taiwan Region of China and Macau Special Administrative Region are not subject to taxation. On October 7, 2019, in response to applications submitted by Moroccan domestic companies INDUTUBE, BATIFER and LONGOFER, the Moroccan investigation authority initiated a safeguard investigation on imported welded steel pipes. On December 12, 2019, the Ministry of Industry, Investment, Trade and Digital Economy of Morocco and the Ministry of Economy and Finance jointly issued an announcement in the official gazette to begin imposing an additional 25% tariff on imported welded steel pipes as a temporary safeguard measure.
