Philippines initiates preliminary trade investigation on imported coated steel

According to foreign media Philstar reported recently, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) of the Philippines has launched a preliminary trade investigation on some imported coated steel products to decide whether to implement import protection measures. The imported flat-coated materials involved in this case include galvanized steel (GI), color-coated galvanized steel (PPGI), color-coated aluminum-zinc coated steel (PPGL) and various types of aluminum-zinc-plated steel (GL). Some Philippine domestic companies applied to the Ministry of Trade and Industry to initiate relevant trade investigations on the ground that the surge in imports of the above-mentioned products harmed the interests of domestic industries.
According to the Ministry of Trade and Industry of the Philippines, during the investigation period (2014-2018), the countries that exported the above-mentioned coated steel to the Philippines were the following:
Galvanized steel sheet-China and South Korea;
Color-coated galvanized steel sheet, color-coated aluminum-zinc coated steel sheet-China and Vietnam;
All kinds of aluminum-zinc coated steel-China.
